How It Works

1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store
2. Start reading any long article or documentation page
3. Your position is saved automatically as you scroll
4. Return later and see a prompt to resume where you left off
5. Click "Resume" to jump back to your exact position

That's it! No configuration needed to get started.

For now, you can install manually:

1. Download from GitHub
2. Go to chrome://extensions
3. Enable "Developer mode"
4. Click "Load unpacked" and select the dist/ folder

Privacy Policy

Overview

Scroll Tracker is committed to protecting your privacy. This extension operates entirely locally on your device with no data transmission to external servers.

Data Collection

Scroll Tracker stores the following data locally on your device:

• URLs of pages you visit
• Scroll positions (pixel offset and percentage)
• Page titles (for display in popup)
• Timestamps of when positions were saved

Data Storage

All data is stored using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API on your device. No data is:

• Transmitted to external servers
• Shared with third parties
• Synchronized to the cloud (unless you enable Chrome Sync)
• Used for analytics or tracking
• Sold or monetized in any way

Data Retention

• Default retention: 90 days (configurable in settings)
• Free tier limit: 50 pages (oldest entries auto-deleted when limit reached)
• Pro tier limit: Unlimited pages
• Manual deletion: You can clear all data at any time from the settings page

Page Content

Scroll Tracker does NOT:

• Read or store page content or text
• Track your browsing history beyond scroll positions
• Collect personal information (name, email, etc.)
• Use cookies or tracking pixels
• Transmit any data over the network

Permissions Explained

The extension requires the following permissions:

• storage: Store scroll positions locally on your device
• activeTab: Detect the current page URL to match saved positions
• tabs: Query tab information for displaying progress in the popup
• scripting: Inject the content script that tracks scroll events
• <all_urls>: Track scroll position on any website you visit

Why <all_urls> Permission?

This permission is required because users read content across the entire web (news sites, blogs, documentation, Wikipedia, etc.). The extension cannot function on a limited set of domains—scroll tracking must work universally to provide value.

This permission is used solely for:

1. Detecting when pages are long enough to track (>2.5x viewport height)
2. Recording scroll position as you read
3. Restoring your position when you return to a page

Your Control

You have full control over your data:

• Per-site disable: Turn off tracking for specific websites
• View all data: See exactly what's stored in the settings page
• Clear all data: Delete everything with one click
• Export data: (Pro feature) Export your progress data as JSON

Payments and Subscriptions

Scroll Tracker offers an optional Pro subscription for $5/month. Payments are processed securely through LemonSqueezy, our merchant of record. We do not handle or store credit card information.

When you purchase a Pro subscription:

• LemonSqueezy processes your payment
• You receive a license key via email
• You enter the key in the extension to unlock Pro features
• License validation is performed locally or via LemonSqueezy's API

Your license key is stored locally in the extension and is never shared with third parties.

Third-Party Services

Scroll Tracker uses zero third-party services for tracking or analytics. The only third-party service is LemonSqueezy for payment processing (optional Pro tier only). There are:

• No analytics providers
• No advertising networks
• No crash reporting services
• No external APIs called
• No server-side components

Data Security

Since all data remains on your device:

• Data is protected by Chrome's security model
• No risk of data breaches from external servers
• No account creation or authentication required

Children's Privacy

Scroll Tracker does not knowingly collect data from children. Since all data stays local and no personal information is collected, the extension is safe for all ages.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We will notify users of any material changes by:

• Updating the "Last Updated" date above
• Posting changes in the extension's release notes
